It’s been a while since I’ve donned a red lip and this week was all about Chili for me. Chili is described by MAC as a “brownish-orangey-red” and it is exactly that. It is not a bright blue toned red like Russian Red and it isn’t as orange toned and as vibrant as Lady Danger. It is a nice bit of middle ground, perfect for people that are a bit apprehensive when it comes to reds. I was pretty apprehensive when I first ventured in to the world of red lips as a teenager. The last thing I wanted was to look like I’d gone mad raiding my mums make up bag – it’s important to find a red that suits your skin tone. I’m quite lucky that I can pull off most red tones. Chili is the red I go to at this time of year because of the brown/burnt orange tones – it is an ideal Autumn/Winter colour. It is a very earthy and warm brick red. I find that matte lipsticks from MAC have great staying power in comparison to some of their other finishes. I managed to get around five hours wear from Chili before it settled in to a nice red stain and needed to be re-applied. Like most MAC lipsticks, Chili is incredibly pigmented and glides on to the lips effortlessly and is completely opaque after one swipe. Matte lipsticks from MAC also have a wonderful way of being non-drying but I do advise to prepare your lips properly before applying as they have a habit of clinging to dry patches. This is nothing that a lip scrub and lip primer/lip balm can’t sort out though. I like to team Chili with MAC Cosmetic’s Cherry lip liner. It is the perfect pairing.
