I have only recently discovered this finishing powder from NYX and boy, aren’t I glad? It has quickly become a firm favourite of mine and an essential in my daily make up routine. I am a massive fan of NYX Cosmetics – they’re affordable, they have a massive selection of products and they are always good quality. I went on a bit of a spending spree online via their website the other day… Oops! Spendaholic Erin strikes again… (Individual product reviews will be up in due course).
The HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder is made of 100% pure mineral silica. Silica is a god send for us oily skinned ladies. This finishing powder is a very finely milled translucent loose powder and unlike most finishing powders, I can assure you that there is zero white cast and it doesn’t make you look like a ghost on photographs. I’ve tried and tested it. It sets my make up beautifully without looking cakey and mattifies my skin for hours on end. It managed to keep the oil at bay for a good 5-6 hours before I need to give it a quick blot. That’s amazing by my standards as I work in a really stuffy air conditioned office and usually around 1-2 hours in to my shift, I’m blotting away doing some serious greasy face damage control. It buffed out my large open pores and imperfections leaving my skin looking brighter and completely flawless. I’ve tried a lot of finishing powders and I’ve tried a lot of products that aim to mattify the skin but nothing has worked as effectively as this has. It works better than most high end powders but for a fraction of the price. I am so impressed.
One thing I will say is to be careful opening, closing and generally using this product as it is so finely milled, the powder has a tendency to get everywhere. This is the main reason I try to avoid using loose powders and go with compact pressed powders instead. However, with the results I’ve seen since using it, how could I not continue to do so? I wish I’d found it sooner! I wouldn’t recommend those of you that suffer with dry skin to use it as it has a way of sticking to dry patches on the skin (I had a spot that had dried out and it clinged to it for dear life).
