Smoked Purple from MAC Cosmetics is one of the nicest and darkest shades I’ve ever laid eyes on. It is described by MAC as a ‘deep eggplant purple’ or a deep aubergine purple if you will (for us UK folk). It is a very cool, blue toned, dark purple and an amazing shade for the Autumn/Winter months and I adore it. It’s deep, it’s dark and it’s vampy – right up my street I tell you and not too dissimilar to MAC’s Cyber. I love teaming Smoked Purple with either Currant or Night Moth Lip Pencils from MAC – it looks fabulous and they are a match made in heaven. Now as much as I love this shade of lipstick (and believe me, I really really do), it isn’t without some major flaws. It is a matte lipstick which is typically my favourite finish but Smoked Purple is incredibly dry and it applies with some difficulty, unevenly and with a lot of tug. It isn’t sounding too good right now, no? Well, I’d certainly recommend some decent lip preparation before hand with some lip scrub and a fair amount of lip balm or lip primer to help with the application, appearance and finish. If you’ve got your lip prep spot on then this lipstick looks absolutely stunning when it’s on. C’mon, just look at it – beautiful.
