NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – £5.50.
When it came to light quite recently that NYX Cosmetics were going to start stocking their products in Boots, I did a little squeal of excitement. I absolutely adore NYX with their beautiful products that are budget friendly and of an incredibly high standard. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are products that I have been lusting after for quite some time, just check my Pintrest boards and liked photographs on Instagram guys. These are lip products that celebrities, beauty bloggers and make up artists adore so naturally I had to get in on some of that action and get some for myself. Now that they are readily available in Boots, but sadly not in my nearest store, I went online and I was completely overwhelmed by choice. In the end I settled on eight shades out of the lot, and that was being quite reserved (for me anyway). Here are the eight shades that I decided on…
Top row: Stockholm (a pale nude-pink) and Sao Paolo (a medium pink).
Bottom Row: Prague (a plum-pink) and Morocco (an orange-red).
Top Row: Amsterdam (a bright classic red) and Monte Carlo (a dark pink-red).
Bottom Row: Copenhagen (a dark wine-red) and Transylvania (a dark plum).
As you can see, I managed to get a nice variety of shades – a bit of everything. I couldn’t resist Copenhagen and Transylvania seeing as we’re in Autumn, they are the perfect berry shades for this time of year and I just love the vamp. Who doesn’t? Beautiful. Now that you’ve seen the shades, let’s get on to the nitty gritty and discuss the formula, staying power, and application – shall we? The formula of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams is phenominal yet slightly strange and here’s why; they come in the form of a lip gloss and have a doe-foot applicator that you would also associate with a lip gloss, but they glide on to the lips effortlessly like a cream but within seconds they dry completely matte. Strange, yes? I find that the doe-foot applicator allows a more precise coverage on to the lips without any pull or drag than your conventional lipstick which I really like. The staying power for these bad boys was around 3-4 hours or until I needed to eat or drink, whichever came first. Despite being a matte lip product, I found that they weren’t overly drying like other matte lipsticks I’ve used in the past which is a massive bonus, especially at this time of year. I’d still recommend using a lip scrub and some lip balm before hand though, especially for the darker shades as they cling to dry patches like you wouldn’t believe. I also found some slight bleeding around the edges with the darker shades too so I would definitely team those colours with a lip liner (I’d recommend MAC Currant or Nightmoth).
Overall I am massively impressed with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – they are affordable, they offer fabulous pigmentation and quality and NYX also offer a really great range of shades – something for everyone. I think they are my new favourite lip products and I think I need to go and buy some more… Right now… Okay bye!
