No7 Instant Radiance Foundation – £12.50.

Every now and again I get a sudden urge to head on over to a No7 counter in my local Boots to peruse the foundations as they really do have some absolute gems. When my skin was much oilier I did fully enjoy the Beautifully Matte Foundation and likened it to Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation but on a budget. Yes that is a huge claim, but is is that good. I do often forget about No7 and I really should give them more time. The Instant Radiance is a new find for me and a bloody good one at that, it is another wonderful foundation from No7 and I’m going to tell you why… Since I started Roaccutane back in September, my skin dramatically changed from an oily grease ridden mess to a dried out old prune. Wonderful hey? Naturally I had to do a massive skin care and make up overhaul to deal with the skin changes – it was costly but necessary. All of original skin care and make up catered towards oily skin and my skin certainly wasn’t that anymore. I didn’t want to spend a massive amount on foundation if I could help it and thankfully I didn’t have to as this tube of loveliness only cost me £12.50 instead of my usual £30.00+. Whilst thinking about what foundations I should get, I saw my Beautifully Matte foundation and had a massive ‘AHAAAA’ moment and off to Boots I went. I needed a lighter, creamier foundation that added a subtle glow but that didn’t cling to any of my new and unsightly dry patches and Instant Radiance did just that. I usually use Cool Beige in the No7 range but since I have been unable to go out in to the sun (damn allergies – you can read about that HERE), my skin has gotten quite a bit paler so the lovely assistant on the counter had to get out that magic skin colour tester thingymajig and it turns out that I’m now Cool Ivory. It was a pretty spot on match – that device is so clever. The Instant Radiance Foundation is very lightweight on the skin, it leaves a very nice yet subtle healthy glow and moisturises the skin as you’re working it in. I like to pump a pea sized amount on to the back of my hand and apply it using a stippling or expert face brush. It is described by Boots as a radiance boost for tired/stressed skin and it is exactly that. It isn’t the type of foundation that I would grab for a night on the tiles as I usually prefer a slightly heavier, more mattified finish but for day time wear, it is absolutely spot on. It is very natural looking and leaves your skin looking pretty darn flawless. No7 Instance Radiance Foundation is great value for money in my opinion and a truly lovely foundation. An absolute must for normal to dry skin types, it’s wonderful. Give it a go – you won’t regret it!

Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick in Coral – £34.00.

Despiting owning a few Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks, they were a product that I could never really get on board with. In all honesty I was never overly keen on the shade range or the finish. When the House of Fraser came in to my place of work with their Bobbi Brown stock, I was instantly drawn to the Brightening Bricks and the shade that particularly caught my eye was ‘Coral’. The Bobbi Brown Brightening Bricks are definitely a product I can get behind. Look how pretty it is. If there is one thing that I love, it is coral blush – I own countless coral shades of blusher as I find that they really work with my medium skin tone. Plus it is a very typical Erin kinda shade. The Brightening Bricks are a way of simply brushing on your glow – it is a bright coral blush blended with a subtle illuminator, blended (again) with a bronzer for warmth. It is essentially a bronzer/highlighter/blusher hybrid – a jack of all trades. I apply this very lightly as the colour payout is incredible and the blush is highly pigmented – you don’t want to walk around resembling coco the clown now, do you? Go lightly my friends! I give my blusher brush a nice but very light swirl around all of the colours and tones to dust across the cheeks. The finished result is just glorious – a nice warm colour, luminosity and a hint of warmth. What more could you want from a blusher? It gives your cheeks a soft flush whilst creating a subtle yet noticeable lit from within glow. If this product ran out, I would certainly replace it in a heartbeat. The quality is incredible, so refined without any chalkiness and it applies effortlessly and stays put all day. I have used it pretty much every day since it ended up in my possession and you only need to use a tiny amount meaning you get your pennies worth from it.

I’ve got my beady eyes on the Cranberry Brightening Brick next…

Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette – £38.00.

What do we have here then? Only another absolutely beauty of an eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay and this one is ideal for transforming your look from day to night with ease. If there is one thing that Urban Decay can deliver, it is high quality, insanely pigmented and buttery soft eyeshadows in an array of incredible shades. I don’t think there is a Naked Palette that I haven’t loved and this one was certainly no different. Firstly, the packaging is phenomenal – I love the floating smoke affect that covers the casing which houses twelve wonderful shades. Like all other Urban Decay Naked Palettes, the case contains a large full sized mirror and a fabulous duo blending brush. Swoon. If you are looking for a palette that allows you to quickly go from a clean, crisp eye to a sulty, smokey eye in one foul swoop and using one single palette, then this is definitely the Urban Decay palette for you. It has the most perfect balance of cool and warm tones that would compliment any skin tone and complexion. The Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette also contains a mixture of different finishes from matte to satin to glitter to cover all of your eye make up needs.

Top row L-R: High (champagne shimmer with micro glitter), Dirty Sweet (medium bronze), Radar (metallic taupe with iridescent micro glitter), Armor (metallic silver taupe with tonal sparkle), Slanted (light metallic grey), Dagger (medium charcoal with micro shimmer).

Bottom row L-R: Black Market (jet-black satin), Smolder (deep-plum taupe), Password (cool taupe matte), Whiskey (rich brown matte), Combust (soft pink-taupe), Thirteen (light beige satin).

As you can probably gather from the swatches above, the Naked palette covers the basics for a lot of different looks and it is a fantastic palette to have in your aresnal. The quality and pigmentation of the eyeshadows is second to none and what I like most about the palette is that none of the shades are repromotes. In fact Naked Smoky contains nine brand spanking new shades and three exclusives that cater to every complexion. What a bloody treat eh? Urban Decay palettes are a make up lovers dream and it really is no wonder that bloggers, celebrities and make up artists alike must have them in their make up stash. A word to the wise, some of the matte and satin shades within the Naked Smoky palette are a teeny tiny bit chalky so you will get a bit of powder kick up and fall out but hey, I can’t complain. Get some tape at the ready and you’ll be sorted – good to go! I am a sucker for a smoky eye and I am in love with this palette!

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in Shade 3 – £32.00.

I know that I am a little bit late to the party with this one and I have read endless rave reviews of how amazing this product is but it was never really for me until recently. A few months back I was prescribed a delightful drug by my dermatologist called Roaccutane (gasp) and it changed my horrendously oily face in to something that I can only imagine feels the Sahara Desert. No, that isn’t an exaggeration – all of the moisture GONE. My normal go to foundations became really heavy on my skin and they irritated me beyond belief so I had to swap out my heavy duty bases for something that was lightweight, hydrating and sheer… This is where Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation came in and took over the show. A lot of people whilst on Roaccutane choose not to wear any make up whatsoever during their treatment, I am most definitely NOT of those people. When I first put this foundation on my face, I was actually quite stunned. It felt incredible on my skin, it was hydrating whilst adding a very subtle yet gorgeous glow. The Light Wonder Foundation was created to hydrate, illuminate and perfect your natural skin and it does just that. I was really surprised that I liked it as much as I did as it is miles away from what I am used to. It adds a wonderful lit from within glow, whilst creating a nice flawless yet totally natural base. If anyone knows about glow, it is Charlotte Tilbury – the Queen of the glow! I found that the best way of applying this foundation was initially using my fingers to really work it in to my skin, and then using a buffing brush over the top to get a little more coverage. You only need a pea sized amount as a little really goes a long way with this foundation. I definitely don’t think that this is a foundation for the oilier skin types out there but it is a definite winner for normal-dry skin. It has certainly bought my sad, dry, dull looking skin back to life and it wears really comfortably on my skin, adding just the right amount of coverage. I’d definitely recommend heading to a Charlotte Tilbury counter and getting a sample for yourself if you can. I am shade ‘3 fair’ and it is a perfect match.

Mac Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Stone – £15.50.

I have loved Stone as a lip liner for as long as I can remember so when MAC Cosmetics decided to introduce the new matte lip collection and include Stone as a lipstick in it’s own right, I did a little squeal of excitement. I got my backside up out of bed, got the laptop out and logged straight on to the MAC website where I bagged not only Stone, but the much coveted Whirl as well. Why the hell not eh? Stone is described by MAC as a ‘muted greyish taupe‘ and it is exactly that. I have read on a number of reviews that Stone leans more towards the warm side but I found it to be a little cool on my lips. It appeared to be more of a medium brown in the bullet but I found that it defintely leant a bit more towards grey once applied and I absolutely adore the colour. I was worried at first that it might not match my skintone but I need not have worried, I adored the shade even more once I was wearing it. It did taking some getting used to though as it is quite different to the majority of lip colours I wear. The colour payout was phenominal which is pretty standard with the majority of MAC’s lipsticks which is why I am hoarding quite the collection. Teamed with the Stone lip liner, the lipstick had some incredible staying power to accompany the colour – it lasted on my lips for around 5 hours before settling in to a nice stain. I did find the finish to be more semi-matte than fully matte but in my opinion that is a bonus if anything, as it wasn’t as drying as the usual matte formula from MAC. I would still definitely recommend a fair bit of lip preparation before hand to get a nice even finish – get the lip scrub and lip balm at the ready folks! If your looking for a gorgeous shade for everyday wear this Autumn/Winter then I think Stone is definitely worth a swatch or two. It is a beautiful colour.

Do you think Stone deserves a place in your make up arsenal throughout the colder months?
