Vichy Normaderm Night Detox – £15.50.

Do you have oily skin? Do you often wake up looking like you’ve ran a marathon in your sleep? You know what I mean, waking up with a shiny, sweaty looking face? If you do then this product is definitely for you. Vichy’s Normaderm Night Detox is specifically formulated for oily and blemish prone skin, targeting the product of excess sebum that occurs throughout the night. I rushed to Boots as soon as this was released to purchase it as it sounded like an absolute dream to me as I often wake up with a shiny face and occasionally, I am greeted by some lovely new friends on my face as a result of all the oil. I have been trialling this product for the last month or so and I’ve been pretty impressed with the results. I really rate Vichy’s Normaderm range and this was no different – their products work really well with my skin. The texture of the product is really light and non-greasy and it absorbs quickly as soon as it comes in to contact with the skin. It isn’t the best in terms of providing moisture but it provides enough so that my skin feels hydrated. You only need to use a pea sized amount to cover your entire face. It has quite a weird and chemically kind of scent but that disappears as soon as it rubbed in to the skin. I’ve been applying Night Detox every night to clean and dry skin after I’ve cleansed and toned and gradually as the days, weeks have gone on – my skin has started to look much clearer and it feels cleaner and less oily upon waking in the morning. The product hasn’t done much in terms of reducing my large pore size but hey, I can’t expect miracles at £15.50. It has helped massively with reducing oil overnight whilst I’m sleeping which has in turn meant that new spots appearing has reduced as well. My skin is looking much healthier and glowing (not oily) – that is definitely a success in my book.

Good Things Miracle Mattifier Moisturiser – £7.99.

I don’t need to repeat myself again by telling you all that I have oily skin as I’m sure you all know that by now. I only rant about it at least once a day. Naturally, anything that says it is mattifying or oil free, I’m all over it like a rash and when I saw this Good Things Miracle Mattifier Moisturiser in Boots, I just had to have it. It’s definitely worth a try, right? I am a massive fan of Good Things skincare – it’s great quality and incredibly affordable. It was created by an award-winning beauty writer, Alice Hart-Davis so surely she knows her stuff. I have tried several Good Things face masks (Manuka Honey Radiance Face Mask and Five Minute Facial Mask) and and I’ve been really impressed by them. Now people with oily skin tend to be wary of moisturisers and oils as their skin is already oily, they seem to think that they can skip these steps but they’d be very much mistaken. Take myself for example, my skin is as oily as hell BUT it is also super dehydrated. Moisturisers and oils can pull a very clever balancing act on your skin to con it in to believing it’s produced enough oil so that it doesn’t produce anymore. This moisturiser provides ample amount of hydration and contains super fruits such as clarifying blackcurrant extract which helps to absorb excess oil and goji berry which helps leave your skin looking brighter and healthier. As you can imagine, it smells incredible too. It’s fresh, fruity but really subtle and not too overpowering. I’m not normally a big fan of scented face products but this, I can live with. The consistency of this moisturiser is quite thick so be careful how much you squeeze out as not to overload your skin. You only need the smallest amount as it spreads pretty darn far and it is super absorbent. Now the question I need to ask myself, how mattifying was it? Well it wasn’t as mattifying as I’d have liked truth be told. It did leave my skin shine free for a short time and my make up went really nicely over it which I liked and it’s probably one of the better mattifying moisturisers I’ve tried but just not quite there yet. It did leave my skin feeling extremely smooth and soft whilst feeling very light on the skin. Generally, a really nice moisturiser with some mattifying properties but not mattifying enough for my oil slick face.

Garnier Moisture March Shine Be Gone Mattifying Fresh Cream – £5.99.

As a sufferer of terribly oily skin, anything that boasts to mattify the skin and rid it off any shine sounds worth a try in my book. I am forever on the hunt for that one product that really works for my skin and keeps the oil at bay. I’ve found some that come pretty damn close to being ‘the one’ without actually being ‘the one’. Does that make sense? I saw these Moisture Match creams from Garnier whilst I was perusing the aisles of Boots (like always – I’m forever in those bloody aisles) and I was instantly intrigued. I was intrigued, not just by the name which sounds like an oily skin sufferers dream but by this whole Moisture Match thing. Garnier have tailor made a handful of creams to suit different skin types with different skin concerns, providing the right about of moisture for your skins needs. In total, there are five creams; Start A Fresh Light Softening Cream for normal/dry skin, Goodbye Dry Ultra Hydrating Rich Cream for dry/very dry skin, Wake Me Up Revitalising Hydrating Gel for dull skin, Protect and Glow Illuminating Light Lotion for normal skin and lastly, Shine Be Gone Mattifying Fresh Cream for oily/combination skin. Can we just take a minute to address the fact that each of these creams are an absolute mouthful to say? Holy moly, long winded much? Anyway, back to the cream, the Shine Be Gone Mattifying Fresh Cream is enriched with green tea extract which claims to contain super absorbent microspheres to deliver a mattifying effect. After a week of putting it to the test, I finally feel like I’m ready to give this my verdict and in short, I’m a little disappointed and let down. I had such high hopes for this cream as I generally love Garnier products, I raved about their Miracle Skin Cream but this just didn’t work for me. Although it felt really lightweight and refreshing on the skin, it is quite heavily scented which caused me to break out a little (and no one wants that – shine be gone? Spots be gone!). I also found that it was really quite ineffective when it came to mattifying my skin which after all is its sole purpose. Whilst this cream makes claims of being ‘super absorbent’, I found that it kind of sat on top of my skin like a greasy film and emphasised my shinier areas (t-zone, forehead, etc) instead of mattifying them. Once it settled, I did try to apply my make up on top of it to see whether it made any difference that way but sadly, I was left disappointed again. Although my face felt smooth and soft, my foundation didn’t sit well on top of it and it started to pool around the large open pores on my cheeks. I really wanted to like this product, it’s such a shame but the whole Moisture Match thing just didn’t work for me. The search for ‘the one’ continues… At least Garnier still have the Miracle Skin Cream and the Ultimate Blends range that I absolutely adore.

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer – £23.00.

20140507-071851 pm.jpg

Did you all know that I love Origins? Yeah, I thought you might… When it comes to skincare, Origins always seem to get it pretty spot on for me (or near as damn it). There is something for everyone, made from gorgeous and natural ingredients. When it comes to the Spring and Summer months, I love nothing more than slapping on some Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer – it is absolutely fantabulous. I use this every single morning and it quite literally wakes me up as well as my tired skin like nothing else could (even a cup of coffee). It’s like a cup of coffee but for your skin. The moisturiser has more of a gel like consistency which makes it is incredibly lightweight and it doesn’t leave behind any horrible greasy residue which makes it a fantastic moisturiser for my oily/combination skin. It absorbs in to the skin like a dream leaving it feeling super hydrated, rejuvenated and nourished. You only need to use a tiny amount as it can spread a really long way meaning that this 50ml pot will last a long time making the £23.00 price tag much more reasonable. I personally think that it is worth every penny. The entire GinZing range from Origins smells unbelievable, like oranges and grapefruit – beautiful and fruity. I love teaming this moisturiser with its little sister product the GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream – nothing works better at putting the glow and radiance back in to my lacklustre skin than these beauties. They really work perfectly together at bringing tired skin back to life. This product is perfect for people like me who love nothing more than a late night but hate waking up looking like they’ve been dug up. A little bit of this moisturiser will help you look more alive, awake, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. I don’t know how my complexion would cope without it, especially with all those early mornings in work. Oh dear. Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer contains panax ginseng and caffeine derived from the coffee bean which helps revive and sooth the skin leaving it feeling soft and supple as well as looking luminous. The only problem I have with this otherwise amazing product is the lack of any SPF. Luckily, I use a primer/base that has a high SPF so I can forgive it for missing out something so vital in our skincare routines I guess.

Garnier Body Ultimate Beauty Oil – £5.49.

As you all well know by now, I absolutely adore body, face and hair oils and when I was in perusing the aisles in Boots, I happened upon this oil from Garnier and couldn’t resist purchasing it. I wanted to see how it compared to other body oils I’ve tried but on a drugstore budget. The main aim of this oil is to illuminate and nourish the skin with moisture. It is a perfecting oil which is a whopping five times more concentrated in nutrients than your regular body lotion. Impressive? I think so. Garnier’s Ultimate Beauty Oil is enriched with a number of different essential oils; argan oil, macadamia oil, almond oil and rose oil – all of which are great for adding moisture to the skin. The common misconception with using oils instead of moisturising creams and lotions is that they will be incredibly greasy. If you invest in a good oil, this is not the case. This offering from Garnier is incredibly light, easily absorbed and it doesn’t leave any greasy residue behind on your hands or skin. After I’ve had a shower/bath, I give my entire body a good dousing in this and rub it in properly before leaving it to dry within seconds. It leaves my skin feeling unbelievably silky soft, smooth and supple whilst smelling absolutely divine. This product can definitely be classed as a cheaper alternative to my beloved NUXE Huile Prodigieuse. Now let’s move on to the negatives of this product, shall we? There is only one big problem that I had with otherwise great product and that was the bottle. Garnier, how could you have gotten it so wrong? The shape of this bottle is a nightmare! The shape just doesn’t work with the functionality of the product. You happily spray one arm and then go to spray the other and the bottle just slips out of your hand or the nozzle just won’t spray if your hands are slippy or wet. Oh dear! Other than the annoying packaging, this is a fabulous little body oil that provides the perfect amount of moisture to the skin. I’m definitely a fan.
