NYX Wonder Stick – £10.00.

Well would you look at what we have here then, eh? I’ve been lusting after NYX’s Wonder Stick for quite some time after watching tutorials on YouTube and perusing make up artist’s instagrams. It is a very clever piece of make up and something a complete contour novice like myself can use. I have never really been able to master the art of contouring sadly, and I was always a bit hesitant of paying a lot of money for a contour kit that I have absolutely no idea of how to use. The NYX Wonder Stick retails at only £10.00 (a total bargain in my opinion) and it is the easiest thing in the world to use. Ultimately the Wonder Stick is a dual ended highlight and contour stick that comes in four different shades – light, medium, dark and universal – there is something for every skin colour and tone. The aim of this product is too add depth, warmth and luminosity to the skin. I like the fact that the instructions on how to use this product (accompanied by pictures of vegas_nay using it) are on the side of the box to guide you through each step of contouring and highlighting. It’s a great point of reference!

Step 1 – Apply highlight to cheekbones, middle of forehead, under eyes, down centre of nose, on the brow bone and along the jaw line.

Step 2 – Apply contour to top of forehead, along hairline, under the cheekbones, down both sides of the nose and underneath the jaw line.

Step 3 – BLEND!

I opted for the light shade in the Wonder Stick and the highlighting shade is a very pale and subtle champagne colour so I wouldn’t recommend using it under the eyes like a concealer, it doesn’t work as a concealer – the pigmentation isn’t there. However I can’t speak for the darker shades. The contour shade in the stick is perfect for my skintone – it is subtle yet noticeable and not too dark/pale. I have to admit that I actually adore the concept of this product and it is ideal for beginners like me. Each stick allows you to get precise application. The consistency of the product is quite waxy so you need to be quite heavy handed with it or go over it a few times to get the colour that you require. I use a beauty blender once all the lines have been drawn on my face to blend it all together. The end result is actually quite impressive. I didn’t even know my round little pea head would suit a bit of contouring but alas, it does. I may even enter the contour palette realms soon, who knows?!

NYX Matte Liquid Liner – £5.50.

I’m not one for donning a cat eye or winged liner everyday, I tend to reserve that for evenings and nights out but when I do opt for a more dramatic eye make up look, I rely on a heavy duty black liquid liner with a decent amount of staying power. I normally reach for my much loved Guerlain Liquid Eyeliner but I have been on the hunt for a cheaper, more budget friendly alternative – enter NYX Matte Liquid Liner. I was perusing Instagram a few weeks back, as you do, and I came across a gorgeous eye make up look from the extremely talented Depeche Gurl and when I was looking at the product information, she had tagged this particular eye liner and from then on, I knew that I had to have it. I went straight to the Boots website and at the click of a button, it made its way to me.
I love how liquid eyeliner can create the neatest, cleanest, and most crisp lines. I definitely prefer liquid eyeliner over gel and pencil for sure. NYX Matte Liquid Liner is part of the NYX Collection Noir eye liner range and it comes with a very thin and elongated brush that you dip in to the eyeliner ink (is it even ink? I’m going to call it ink anyway) and away you go – my favourite type for easy, precise and tidy application. None of this felt tip pen malarkey. The formula of this eye liner is incredible – it is super pigmented, intensely black, incredibly fast drying and it settles in to the most gorgeous bold matte finish that just does not budge. When I say it doesn’t budge, I mean that it doesn’t budge – not one inch. What I love most is that I don’t get any of that annoying transfer on the top of your eye lids that makes you look like you’ve gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson. That is without a doubt my eyeliner peeve. It is ideal for nights out as it definitely withstands just about any condition you can throw at it and it remains absolutely perfect. Prepare to have some heavy duty eye make up remover in your Arsenal for this stuff. It performs just as well as my beloved Guerlain, creating bold, classic looks but for a fraction of the price. This little baby only costs £5.50 and it is pretty damn awesome.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – £5.50.

When it came to light quite recently that NYX Cosmetics were going to start stocking their products in Boots, I did a little squeal of excitement. I absolutely adore NYX with their beautiful products that are budget friendly and of an incredibly high standard. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are products that I have been lusting after for quite some time, just check my Pintrest boards and liked photographs on Instagram guys. These are lip products that celebrities, beauty bloggers and make up artists adore so naturally I had to get in on some of that action and get some for myself. Now that they are readily available in Boots, but sadly not in my nearest store, I went online and I was completely overwhelmed by choice. In the end I settled on eight shades out of the lot, and that was being quite reserved (for me anyway). Here are the eight shades that I decided on…

Top row: Stockholm (a pale nude-pink) and Sao Paolo (a medium pink).

Bottom Row: Prague (a plum-pink) and Morocco (an orange-red).

Top Row: Amsterdam (a bright classic red) and Monte Carlo (a dark pink-red).

Bottom Row: Copenhagen (a dark wine-red) and Transylvania (a dark plum).

As you can see, I managed to get a nice variety of shades – a bit of everything. I couldn’t resist Copenhagen and Transylvania seeing as we’re in Autumn, they are the perfect berry shades for this time of year and I just love the vamp. Who doesn’t? Beautiful. Now that you’ve seen the shades, let’s get on to the nitty gritty and discuss the formula, staying power, and application – shall we? The formula of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams is phenominal yet slightly strange and here’s why; they come in the form of a lip gloss and have a doe-foot applicator that you would also associate with a lip gloss, but they glide on to the lips effortlessly like a cream but within seconds they dry completely matte. Strange, yes? I find that the doe-foot applicator allows a more precise coverage on to the lips without any pull or drag than your conventional lipstick which I really like. The staying power for these bad boys was around 3-4 hours or until I needed to eat or drink, whichever came first. Despite being a matte lip product, I found that they weren’t overly drying like other matte lipsticks I’ve used in the past which is a massive bonus, especially at this time of year. I’d still recommend using a lip scrub and some lip balm before hand though, especially for the darker shades as they cling to dry patches like you wouldn’t believe. I also found some slight bleeding around the edges with the darker shades too so I would definitely team those colours with a lip liner (I’d recommend MAC Currant or Nightmoth).

Overall I am massively impressed with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – they are affordable, they offer fabulous pigmentation and quality and NYX also offer a really great range of shades – something for everyone. I think they are my new favourite lip products and I think I need to go and buy some more… Right now… Okay bye!

Another month has quite literally flown by and here I am, sat at my little iPad, compiling my monthly favourites for July. In a few days, we’ll be entering August… Can you believe it? So I know you are all dying to see what’s made the cut this month and there have been some good beauty bits that’s for sure.

First up is one of my favourite cleansers that has had a little revamp for the Summer months and it’s a limited edition one sadly – Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Orange Flower and Chamomile. It has the same fantastic formula of the multi-award winning original but with soothing chamomile and a gorgeous orange flower scent. It is just as effective as the original but it feels much lighter but more hydrating and nourishing. Plus that scent is ideal for the warmer months, so refreshing. Sticking with the skincare, I have developed a total addiction and love affair with Pai’s Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil. I adore Pai as a brand as they are natural and organic and this is without a doubt the most concentrated Rosehip oil on the market today. If you suffer with acne scarring, blemishes, dull or dehydrated skin then this stuff is definitely for you. This has been an integral part of my skincare routing in the evenings since it entered my life. I use it every night after serum but before moisturising and my skin looks so much clearer and healthier. It is pretty incredible.

There are so many make up items that I’m loving this month that I found it quite difficult to whittle them down for this post but I managed to do it. I have been loving Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet this month, it is the perfect mattifying base that isn’t too heavy and still holds up pretty well in the humidity. My skin has been looking much clearer lately so I’ve been taking full advantage of the lighter coverage of this foundation. I have been teaming this with Topshop’s Powder Blush in Do It Again and my skin has never looked so good. Do It Again is a stunnin coral red shade with subtle shimmer that adds a lovely highlight to your cheekbones. As I mentioned earlier, the key word for most of July is ‘humid’ and it is an oily skinned girls nightmare. When it comes to my eyeliner, I’ve had to pull out the big guns in the form of Illamasqua’s Precision Gel Eyeliner. This stuff has some incredible wear time and staying power, creating the deepest and blackest opaque lines in one foul swoop. Humidity don’t have nothin’ on this liner that’s for sure. No worries. I couldn’t write a favourite posts and not include two seriously impressive products that I’ve received this month; my gorgeous custom made Inglot palette and NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait. I won both of these as part of a giveaway (lucky me eh?) and they’re products that I’ve wanted for the longest time and they did not disappoint. The Inglot eyeshadows are buttery soft, easy to blend and apply and they are incredible. The NYX Butter Gloss have the super shine of a lip gloss without any of the stickiness or tackiness. They melt on your lips and feel so comfortable and nourishing. I’m hooked. Strawberry Parfait is a gorgeous medium blue toned pink that looks so pretty on the lips.

Lastly, my favourites wouldn’t be my favourites without some haircare loving. With the warmer weather, my naturally quite dry and frizzy hair has needed some extra TLC. I have been loving Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Restorer Oil which contains both cocoa butter and coconut oil. It not only has that fabulous holiday coconut smell but it has the ability to transform my lifeless, dry hair to some serious silky, shiny, soft and healthy looking hair. I use 2-3 pumps of this oil in to my hands and work through my damp hair before blow drying and straightening. I sometimes put a bit more on my dry hair to tame flyaways. My hair has been looking and feeling so amazing lately. I adore the entire range but the oil is the true hero of the group in my opinion.

I was lucky enough to win these as part of a giveaway and I have never been so happy. The NYX Butter Gloss’ have been on my wish list for as long as I can remember but I’ve always been torn between what colours to get so when I won this giveaway, the colours were picked for me. Nice and easy, right? I’m not really one for lipgloss usually as I can’t cope with that sticky, tacky feel that they leave on your lips but these are something else. They are so unbelievably dreamy. Each butter gloss comes with a doe foot applicator and the gorgeous buttery formula just glides effortlessly on to the lips with some fabulous pigmentation. I can certainly see why they are called butter gloss as they are literally as soft as butter and they melt wonderfully on to the lips. Zero tack and zero stick. They are smooth, nourishing and super moisturising. For a lip gloss, they also wear incredibly well – the staying power is super impressive.

The shades I received were…
Strawberry Parfait – a magenta pink.
Merengue – a pale pink.
Maple Blondie – a light peach.

All of the shades that were chosen for me are fabulous and certainly right up my street. I’ve seen a lot of hype surrounding NYX Butter Gloss and I can finally say that they are definitely worth every bit of that hype. Let the addiction begin… I want ALL the shades in my possession immediately. The formula is completely outstanding and the shade variety is equally as good. I have to say that NYX are one of my favourite low end brands, they always stock amazing products at affordable prices. These are right up there at the top of my favourite NYX products list along with their phenomenal blushers.
